Katalys Crew a dynamic force in Reggae Music.
For almost 15 years the group has proven that a collective consciousness can indeed produce life changing experiences for our music industry. Formed in 2003 the band launched its first album in Emancipation Park Jamaica in June 2004. The launch was indeed a true testament to the future successful journey and destination of this group. Dubbed by industry insiders as one of the biggest, most intriguing and captivating launch ever in Jamaica, over 7000 people gathered in Kingston’s Emancipation Park to witness and celebrate the creative, inspirational and powerful musical expressions of Katalys Crew.
Katalys Crew with motto as “Agents Of Change” has been through its share of change. The group today features two Core members.
Katalys is well known for recording and performing international standard Roots Inspirational Reggae and as such currently offers a slate of new tracks by extremely talented musicians and features a lead singer of international repute – Shalom
Paul Barclay - (Founder) Songwriter, Producer, Bassist & Vocalist
Paul Barclay, after releasing his first song the Chart Toping single ‘NO Power on Earth’ by George Nooks, under his KatsJam Records label, is now recognized as one of Jamaica’s renowned songwriter and producer. A and Jamaican ‘to the bone’, Paul’s dedication and commitment to the upliftment of the human spirit through the language and consciousness of reggae music, is highlighted in the very approach he took in ensuring that his first major musical project had the ability to leave an indelible mark on the minds of many. Having gleaned the right experience and exposure over the years by being the musical director or band leader for world renowned talents like, Grace Thrillers, Carlene Davis, Papa San, Judy Mowatt, Lieutenant Stitchie, Paul was ready to explore the world of music and to heighten the consciousness of many through the language and dynamism of reggae music. Recalling his love of chemistry from high school days, the meaning of one word seemed to have left an indelible mark on his mind – Catalyst – that which has the ability to instigate change without itself being transformed. Katalys Crew was the next major project embarked upon by Paul. This is a Reggae group dubbed by industry insiders as one of Jamaica and the Caribbean’s premier Roots Inspirational Reggae Band.
Stephen “Shalom Harper” - Lead Singer and Songwriter
Shalom, who is blessed with a smooth and distinct voice is a popular recording artiste and dynamic stage performer.
Stephen was the only supporting vocals for Sugar Minott for several years touring Japan, England, Germany, France, Africa, Canada, the United States and other parts of the world. He later met Phil Mathias, Producer of the 1997 hit single ‘Baby I’ve Got News For You’. This hit singles stayed on the charts in the number one position for fourteen (14) weeks in Jamaica, and number one on the Black Echo’s chart in London, England as well as Africa. Shalom recently teamed up with renowned songwriter and producer and founder of Katalys Paul Barclay and is currently lead vocalist for the group Katalys
Mark Anthony Reid – Drummer, Songwriter & Vocalist:
A graduate of the University Of The West Indies, Mark is an extremely talented songwriter arranger and drummer.
Levoy Paul – Guitarist Songwriter and Vocalist:
Levoy is a very promising songwriter and guitarist, currently doing a major in psychology at the university of the West Indies
Courick Clarke –Keyboard Player and Vocalist:
Courick Clarke of Heartcore Productions is a founding member of Katalys Crew, is also an established producer. He is the Co-Producer on most of the earlier recordings for Katalys Crew, At present he is pursuing his solo career as Koriq.
According to band Leader Paul Barclay, Katalys Crew today is maturing and always reflecting visionary leadership based on their individual faith in the Almighty and a keen sense of cultural identity. The Motto for Katalys Crew is “An Agent of Change” as such the journey is a conscious one. It is a journey that supports the mission of Katalys Crew Production, to positively transform the minds of many through the unique language of reggae music. It is this vision of long term change that fuels the energies within the group. The intention is to continually be culturally relevant, fresh and current while remaining true to the Roots impact and influence of the Christ. This Roots Inspirational Reggae Band, since its entry on the music scene is well known for its role in raising the bar in delivering quality recordings, dynamic live performances and music marketing.
Katalys Crew is recipient of the Caribbean Gospel Award for Best Gospel Album for Open Your Eyes (2005) and Top Caribbean Gospel Group (2006). The song writers award from the Reggae Academy for Can’t Stop Now (2008). The Group also received the Maja award for song of the year (2006) and was nominated in every possible category in the competition, a first in the Maja Awards. Katalys Crew also received seven nominations in the Marlin Awards including song of the year.
Katalys Crew – Agent for Change, the visionary, continues to lead the way on the international stage with cultural and inspirational reggae sounds. It is clear that success has only begun for this band. With the band’s clear sense of cultural consciousness and commitment to ignite a positive awakening of the human spirit throughout the universe, its message will no doubt be a catalyst for positive change, signaling the power of this great music - REGGAE.

As “Agents of Change” it is our intention to be actively engaged in the creative process of transformation through our lyrical content and live performances. Our aim is to make this mandate a viable full time activity.
